Lake Manyara National Park

Where the lions climb the tree

The foot of a 600m Rift Valley slope is Lake Manyara, which is surrounded by various landscapes.

The savannah in the east, dry forest in the southwest and tropical forest in the northwest. From the grassy alluvial plain you can look over the picturesque lake to the jagged volcanic peaks that rise from the Maasai steppe.

Flamingo flocks keep landing here. A special highlight are the lions, they climb the acacias like the leopards to sleep there at dizzy heights, a completely atypical behavior.
