To the east of Mount Meru, an extinct volcano, the landscape is characterized by savannas, grasslands, seasonal swamps and lakes, crater landscapes and mountain slopes covered with tropical rainforest.
The rare diadem monkeys and the black and white colobus monkeys live here. The huge strangler fig trees and the many epiphytes are impressive.
